Why Santorini is the best place to travel

When someone says Go to Santorini, most people are quite curious as to why this island in Greece would be considered one of the best places to travel to in the world today. With clear blue skies and white sand beaches, it’s easy to see why Santorini is one of the most photographed islands in the world. The island itself has an interesting history, dating back over 3,500 years ago when its first settlers came from mainland Greece during the Bronze Age era.

When to visit

The best time to visit Santorini is in July or August as this is when tourists tend to avoid. This may seem odd for Greece, but these are some of the hottest months and temperatures can reach up to 44 degrees Celsius. The summer months also coincide with a lot of tourist arrivals, so going in July or August will make your holiday more enjoyable and a lot less crowded. Additionally, if you want to get away from it all, September should be your target month as it will have significantly fewer tourists than the summer time. Finally, if you have any chance of visiting in January and February, I highly recommend you reconsider as these are low season times with smaller crowds and minimal hours of daylight - perfect for those who need more peace and quiet!

Where to stay

Santorini offers a wide range of accommodations to suit a variety of budgets. If you're on a tight budget, and staying within walking distance to the town is essential for you, then check out Elios Studios. Elios Studios provides ample amenities such as free Wi-Fi, complimentary shuttle service to and from Fira (within walking distance), parking, air conditioning, cable TV, and pool access. Santoriini also has some great mid-range hotels that offer similar amenities as higher priced hotels with more luxurious finishes such as Artemis Suites - Midiums Boutique Accommodation which offers hot breakfast delivered to your room every morning.

Things to do

To make the most of your visit to Greece, we recommend that you take at least four days. One day for Athens and another day to explore Santorini. Visit Oia, swim in a volcanic cave, indulge at a restaurant and shop till you drop before heading back to Athens on day three. Day four will be spent exploring and walking along Dionysos street with views over Kamari beach and all the way out to Ammoudi bay with your feet in the blue-flag sand. Make sure to drink wine on top of it all!

Places to eat

Places to eat are some of the most popular tourist attractions on this island. One of my favorite places to eat in Santorini was an outdoor restaurant with a delicious salad and seafood dish. Another great dining experience was at a Greek tavern where I tried squid ink pasta and a shot of ouzo. If you are lucky enough, try their famous fried cheese and octopus appetizer!

What makes it unique?

Walking on volcanic rocks and stepping into blue-green seas with pristine white beaches should make you feel in heaven.

You can also see islands like Thira, Athinios, Iraklia, and Nea Kameni from a distance and enjoy their natural beauty as well. Walking through the small villages and towns where time has stopped gives you an amazing feeling of what life was like before modernity took over. The people are welcoming, friendly, generous and hospitable making it a truly unique experience for those that visit.

It will be the great tour of your life.
